Memories

I think of him all the time. I often have to remind myself to stop thinking so much. But it seemed good to remember, though I'd like to only remember the good times. That's tough as my mind remembers the bad times too.

We hold the memory of someone when they don't inhabit a human form anymore. Their spirit and teaching continue through us - not to us. In each memory, I really feel grateful despite some of the emotional waves of sorrow, grief, and shame. I move through those quickly and bathe in the thoughts of laughter, silly moments, and quite times where, if even for a moment, I felt safe, loved, and content. When we remember, the most important thing to remember is memories are not happening to us right now.

They are of the past. So, we must learn to become aware of the thoughts, images, and sensations, then reflect, but not ruminate in the memory, else it can consume us into darkness. The awareness of it all brings light, even to the darkest memories that still live in our mind. We bring in the light through awareness. It's that simple.
